Nubian Ascends Artist Housing
The Nubian Ascends Campus Project is transforming the heart of Historic Roxbury into a cultural center for the Black Community in Boston. The center includes a new office lab building, parking garage, artist housing, artist studios, and a new cultural center. As part of this project, STUDIO ENÉE is designing the new Greater Roxbury Arts and Cultural Center, the Artists Studios, and Affordable Artist Housing for this community. The 3 story new housing building on Harrison Avenue is adjacent to the parking garage and artist way. The new Artist Housing includes 17 affordable 1-bedroom units, a lobby with a gallery space, community spaces, bike room, outdoor spaces, and all interior finishes and FF&E.
The building is clad in brick glass and concrete panels and community artwork will be provided inside and outside the building. The building is highly sustainable. It will have solar on the roof, energy efficient systems, LED lighting, geothermal wells, and low flow plumbing. It received designation from the Mayors Office of Housing and is slated to be LEED Certified and PHIUS (Passive House Construction).
