CREATIVE HUB WORCESTER

2 Ionic Avenue in Worcester was once a vital community asset. Built by a generous industrialist in 1914, the 36,000 sf building was one of the original 15 Boys Clubs in the U.S. 1,800 boys came to this space for activities like boxing, swimming, basketball, and chess, or to study in the Club’s library. This historic building, now vacant, is envisioned to be transformed into the Creative Hub Community Arts Center (Creative Hub CAC) —a dynamic Community Arts Center for artists, creative entrepreneurs, and community members to work, make, collaborate, perform, and attend events in a vibrant, multi-purpose environment.

The Creative Hub CAC project is a partnership between the Creative Hub Worcester (CHW) and The Arts & Business Council of Greater Boston (A&BC). The study for the Creative Hub Community Arts Center Project includes programming and conceptual design options for the renovation of the existing Boys Club on 2 Ionic Avenue for Creative Hub Community Arts Center. The program includes a complete accessibility review of the interior and exterior of the building and the design of a new program to include new entrances, exhibit and gallery spaces, artist studios, classroom, offices, multi-purpose rooms, and event spaces. It also includes restoration of the exterior and interior historic spaces, new finishes, new systems, and a new elevator to connect all of the different levels and half levels of the building.
