BOSTON CENTER FOR THE ARTS

Since 1970, Boston Center for the Arts’ existing facilities are located in 2 buildings in Boston’s historic South End. The historic buildings, built in 1884 and 1899, are in the South End Landmarks District. 539 Tremont Street is a 1-story building with basement known as the Cyclorama (approx. 84,000 GSF) and 551 Tremont Street is a 4-story building with penthouse and basement known as the Artist Studio Building (approx. 44,000 GSF).

The program spaces in the Cyclorama building include event rental space, 2 theaters, theater support spaces, and administrative offices.  The program spaces in the Artist Studio Building include a visual arts gallery, the Mills Gallery, 50 artist studios, and offices. This study for Boston Center For The Arts is to recommend priorities to be addressed for public safety and maintenance and repairs in the near term (0-5 years) and for long term repairs with and preparation for Boston Center for the Arts’ future capital improvement planning effort.
