2 BOYLSTON

A sculptural stair marks the entrance to the historic Boston China Trade Building’s renovated lobby.  Located in the Theater District across from the Chinatown MBTA station, the 6-story historic mercantile building includes retail and office space and the Boston Public Library’s Chinatown branch.  The 6-story atrium and lobby is filled with natural daylight.  As part of the renovation, the atrium walls and structure are painted a neutral color and the vertical circulation is highlighted in red to brighten the public space.  Highly visible from Boylston Street, the sculptural stairs provide signage for the Library, highlight the vertical circulation, and enliven the 6-story atrium space.
